Piccolino Room

Piccolino Room

The Piccolino children are approximately aged between 15 months to 3 years.

In this room, the Piccolinos undertake a variety of different activities that aid their natural development and independence. The activities are real and have a purpose, for example, scrubbing potatoes, pouring and washing up.

The staff move among the children encouraging them to undertake their individual activities and also small group activities such as messy play, painting, water and sand play. Socialisation is a strong emphasis in this environment, with the children learning to share and to work together co-operatively.

The children’s individual routines are really important to us; we work closely with our parents to ensure our care is as much like home as possible. We learn as much about our children as possible so that each activity is planned and based around the child’s interests and preferences.

Our children love the outdoors; we regularly visit and feed the ducks, play and explore the local parks and we always join in with local events such as switching on the Christmas tree lights and the annual lantern parade down the High Street. We recently watched the Olympic torch!

OFSTED Say: ‘…the environment provides children with good opportunities to choose play materials and follow their individual learning style
