A Montessori Nursery in the heart of Winchester
The Lido is a Montessori Nursery School, just off Worthy Lane in Hyde and operates on a term-time only basis. Our Tea Club and Holiday Clubs work with our Nursery School to provide flexible, wrap around childcare for children from the age of 2 years between 8 am and 6 pm all year round.
The day begins for some of our children at 8.00 or 8.30 am when they join us for a healthy breakfast! Our other children join us at 9 am to start the day!
At nursery we follow a curriculum that is structured but that allows each individual child to develop gently, at their own pace, fostering a love of learning.
Our Montessori curriculum (which is linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage) is well balanced and focuses on the individual child and their ‘Learning Journey’
Each curriculum area is presented one-to-one and through small group work. We place emphasis on daily living activities to help them towards independence and gain an ability to care for themselves. Their senses are refined through Sensorial training and the opportunity to learn specific concepts through the use of concrete Montessori materials.
OFSTED say: Children.. ‘..learn to become increasingly independent in managing their own personal needs. For example, a child who is new to the setting and ready to leave the security of her key person to join the group, first needs to throw away a dirty tissue. Her key person walks beside her, talking through the process, showing the child how the bin opens and praising her success.
At no point does the key person do any of the process for the child, but at every stage she is alongside her, gently talking through the new nursery routines. In this way, children learn first-hand the nursery expectations and that they can manage small tasks and successfully. Caring staff help children gain confidence without taking over, so children take pride in their achievements and are willing to try the next step in their next skill…”
