Welcome from our Nursery Manager, Miss Debbie
Hello, my name is Miss Debbie. I am the Manager of Eco Montessori at Norman Court. I have worked in Early years for over 13 years. I started my journey as a volunteer in a small rural Pre-School where I studied and worked my way up through every position ending up as Manager for many years. I then experienced working in a busy setting and create an outdoor Forest School provision.
During my time in early years, I have achieved many qualifications such as my Level 3 and 5 in early years education, trained SENCO and worked hard on a unit to be able to coordinate special educational needs` I trained as a Norwegian Woodland Practitioner then completed my Forest School level 3 leadership qualification.
I have three main passions:
One – To support children and families with additional needs. I find this very rewarding and love to see children’s progress.
Two – To work in partnership with parents. Parents are the key to their children succeeding and I enjoy building relationship with each and every one working together and sharing ideas.
Three – Outdoor learning is my absolute favourite. I love nothing more than getting children outside in all weathers and allowing them to get to know and understand the world we live in. I allow children to take managed risks such as using real tools (hammers, bows, saws and whittling to name a few) and when they are ready to use fire strikers and build fires. Being outside with no toys allows children to use their imagination, senses, gross and fine moto skills. They can climb, run, build and explore while being free and learning so many valuable life skills during play.
I enjoy watching children explore nature, where they can begin to really understand life cycles and seasons.
My favourite environment is one without walls. One where children can lead and extend their own learning and play with only natural resources around them.
When I am not at work I enjoy spending time with my family: my husband, my 3 beautiful children and my crazy Springer Spaniel Oberon. I also have a cat called lee lee and 3 tortoises Sammy, Bubbles and Bob.
OFSTED say: ‘The nursery provides a good variety of healthy and nutritious meals and snacks, which are freshly cooked. Staff teach children about good hygiene routines and remind them about washing their hands.’
Our nursery is divided into three play & learning rooms. We also have an outdoor space which provides the children with an area to have fun and to refine their motor skills using equipment such as the trikes, slide, castle and balancing beam! Forest School sessions are run on a regular basis whereby we visit the same woods on a regular basis and through play, the children have the opportunity to learn about the natural environment, how to handle risks and most importantly to use their own initiative to solve problems and co-operate with others.
OFSTED say: ‘Children are secure and happy in the welcoming environment that offers a wide variety of resources and play opportunities. The indoor and outdoor play areas are well organised to help children develop their physical skills.’
